About this activity
A 3D forest pancake kitchen. Students measure each order with unit-fraction scoops into a clear jug marked only at 0, 1 and 2 cups, bake the pancake, and share 1 cup of syrup fairly among animal customers.
What students learn
- Explain the denominator as the size of one scoop (how many fill one cup) and the numerator as how many scoops
- See that a bigger denominator means a smaller part: two 1/8 cup scoops are much less than 1/2 cup
- Count by unit fractions past one whole (1 and 2/3 cups is five 1/3 cup scoops)
- Share 1 cup fairly among 2 to 10 animals and compare the portions from three sharing tables
