About this activity
A roguelike alchemy dungeon: every guardian is broken by a potion the student forges by predicting the products of its reagents, balancing the equation and naming the reaction type.
What students learn
- C2.2: write balanced chemical equations for synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, double displacement and combustion reactions, with IUPAC names and formulas
- C2.4: predict the products of synthesis and decomposition reactions, including oxides with water
- C2.5: predict the products of single displacement reactions using the metal activity series and the halogen series
- predict the products of double displacement reactions that form a precipitate, a gas or water (the SCH3U double displacement expectation; the platform dictionary has no Grade 11 row for its code yet)
- C3.1: identify synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, double displacement and combustion reactions
