About this activity
A first-person block world over Ontario's rock layers. Students mine crystal pockets, test every sample (fingernail, copper coin, steel nail, glass, streak plate, lamp, vinegar), identify it with a field key, and fill village orders that change the world.
What students learn
- Classify minerals by hardness, streak, lustre and the vinegar fizz test, from tests the student runs (E2.3)
- Connect each mineral to an everyday use: drywall, road salt, cement, pencils, steel, glass, pottery and copper wire (E2.4)
