About this activity
A live class parade. The big screen calls a band size; every student stretches a rectangular formation on an empty parade grid on their phone and steps it out. A wrong formation leaves stragglers, empty spots, or bumps the curbs of a narrow street; every exact one joins the class Formation Wall.
What students learn
- B2.6: represent multiplication up to 10 x 10 as an array by building a rectangular formation for a band of a given size
- Tell the number of rows from the number in each row: 6 rows of 4 is not 4 rows of 6
- B2.1: a turned array keeps the same total (none added, none lost)
- B2.2: use multiplication facts of 2, 5 and 10, and related division facts, to find the rows for a street width
